Class Description, FAQs, and Requirements:

This two - six week class removes the stress of staying on top of your child's summer reading. We will create a customized schedule, with manageable daily reading and short assignments that will allow your child to dive deeply into his or her summer reading and improve his or her reading comprehension. RewriteU offers a one-to-one experience for your child, with individualized schedules, assignments, quizzes, feedback, and more.

You and your child will provide the assigned summer reading book two weeks prior to the start date, giving our teacher time to read the book and create a customized schedule and assignments based on your child's reading list. If you would like to supplement the assigned list, you and your child may select one or several books from our library that matches his or her reading levels and interest. Read about how to select your child's book here.

Class Includes:

  • One-to-one attention given to your child by our certified, veteran teacher
  • Access to a personalized and private Google Classroom for your child to check his or her reading schedule, take reading-check quizzes, complete and upload assignments, receive feedback, and more
  • An individualized reading and assignment schedule designed for your child
  • Access to video mini-lessons targeted to your child's needs
  • Quick reading-check quizzes, altered to both challenge and build confidence in your child
  • Short assignments to enhance understanding
  • Individualized feedback on assignments provided within 24 hours of due dates

Age Recommendation:

The initial curriculum is designed around your child's summer reading book or books you select for your rising 6th-10th grader. The curriculm will then be tailored to your child specifically, changing depending on your child's age, ability, and progress.

Do you think your child may benefit from this class even though he or she doesn't fit within our age requirements? Send us an email at contact@rewriteu.com. We may be able to accomodate your and your child's needs.

Length of Class:

Varies depending on number and length of books, but we will target one book every two weeks; you decide the start date.

Would you like a start date that's not listed to the right? Send us an email at contact@rewriteu.com. We may be able to accomodate your and your child's needs.

Class meeting time:

Whenever you want! Your child will start the class with explicit instructions for his or her first assignment. After that, your child will receive individualized feedback and further assignments based on his or her progress.

Time Commitment:

We expect that each book will take approximately two-weeks and no more than ten hours of your child's time. Do understand that the length of the assigned or selected book and your child's reading speed may influence this time commitment.

There will be assignments to do ever-other weekday, but your child will be asked to read every day. Short assignments will be  a combination of quick reading-check quizzes, brief writing prompts, and short video mini-lessons. Your child will be given various tools to help him or her monitor his or her comprehension on subsequent reading assignments; this will likely involve a targeted form of annotation.
