What a week! So many firsts for rewriteU, and we are excited to share them with you.
So what happened in Week 2?
First Students: The week started with Marena and Jack dropping off promotional postcards and bookmarks to businesses in Capitol Hill that expressed interest in supporting rewriteU the week before. The reception was overwhelmingly warm, and we are so thankful to live in a community that supports small businesses and their neighbors. In particular, thank you to Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Michael Anthony Salon, Hill Center, and Capitol Hill Books.
Through knocking on doors and continuing to reach out to contacts at schools in the DC metro area by email, our persistence paid off; students are signing up for rewriteU classes!
First Exhibition: From our continued outreach to our community, we discovered that the Literary Hill BookFest was happening on May 7th. We connected with the organizers, and after learning about rewriteU, they gave us a chance and let us be one of the exhibitors along with a number of other authors and organizations focused on reading and writing. We had no idea what to expect or how to prepare, but we spent all Friday night creating flyers and coming up with a raffle to attract neighbors to our booth. We had a fantastic time interacting with local families, organizations, and authors, and we cannot thank the Literary Hill BookFest enough, especially Liz Cogan, for providing us with this opportunity.
First Interview: Finally, in addition to reaching out to friends, families, schools and teachers, at the recommendation from our dear friend Abby Conger, we also reached out to local newspapers to see if they would carry our story. And, they were interested! Marena was interviewed this week by a local Virginia paper; we'll share the link to the story next week!
See you next week!
